January 2001

• I updated the review for Pong II: Corporate Empires to reflect the new version.
  Unfortunately, due to a large workload from school, I have not been
  able to complete any reviews.
  My current review-pending list looks like this:

  I also received a few more files over this week, so to those of you
  who wonder what is taking so long, I assure you, I will review them!

  The featured site this time around is NQDC.
  NQDC stands for the New QBasic Developers' Centre. It is hosted by Keiko, and the site's purpose is outlined here:
  This site is here to give all the Qbasic Newbies a chance to put up all their rants and host all the new qbasic games to showcase the talent of all the Qbasic Newbies.
  Anyone interested in the job of helping me Keiko, running the site just email me or talk to me via ICQ or even the Qbasic chat. All you Qbasic newbies should also keep checking on this site to see what the competition is like. The main point in this site is to showcase the talent available in Qbasic and to give all newbies a safe place to visit.
  So let's watch out for Keiko's site!

  Found in the ABOUT section of QBasic Contest Central:
  This site was established January 2001, right after Tek announced that Neozones was to be no more. It was a great site. Many programmers, including myself, wanted to enter the contest to make a winter screen saver. This site began as a vision to host a few contests every month or so. It was to challenge QBasic programmers to make small, quality programs. This site is dedicated to bring programmers a nice alternative to show off their skills or to just try something new.

  So far, this site was just started and needs support from the Q-munity (QBasic community). Prizes cannot be given out because we have no advertisers. Instead, the winners will get to place a nice graphic on their web page, like a medal or badge. It will be a symbol of pride and skill. Also, winner's names will be posted on this site. So, enjoy and good luck!

• I am thinking a new Pong type of game to submit to one of the
  contests at QBasic Contest Central. I would love to use the
  Future Library to make it. What this means is that
  I will have to learn how to use it. There are no real tutorials out there,
  so I am thinking that as I learn it, I will write down everything. Then I can create my
  own tutorial for using it. I should be able to find
  the time this quarter since I have a bit of free time during the week.

• As you can see, I have updated the site's looks.
  Not only that, but I have added more content.
  Check out the chat page
  to see that I have links to three popular chatrooms.
  Statto Software was added to my affiliate section,
  which was moved from the menu to the main page below.
  I would appreciate any comments, either on my forum,

  • Future Software and QBasic News have moved to a new server,
    with the promise that it will be faster and have
    more uptime.
  • QB Cult Magazine has released issue #8!
  • Terry Cavanagh, author of QB Gamer Magazine and Alternate Logic Puzzles
    as well as founder of Dark Legends Software, has left the QBasic community.
